Chris Lockyer

Musical Director

Chris and family have been living in Deal since 2003 and are great fans of the town and its seafront.

Chris hails originally from Eastbourne and was schooled at Christ’s Hospital near Horsham where he learnt the organ with the late Malcolm McKelvey. He went to the University of Birmingham, gained a degree in music, and after a spell of voluntary work trained as a teacher in Edinburgh. His first job was in the Scottish borders.

Following this he spent ten years teaching at a school for the Visually Impaired in Sevenoaks which included a one-year job exchange at a similar school in Melbourne Australia. Chris was Head of Music at the British School in Rio de Janeiro for four years and met his wife in Rio. Returning to the UK, he worked for a short time on the Iona Community, at Gravesend Grammar school for boys, and for a number of years as assistant Director of Music at Dover College.

Chris is also Director of Music at St Mary’s, Walmer.
